Children’s health is a very important matter. Parents, teachers, and medical professionals concern themselves with the mental, emotional, physical and even social health of the little ones in their care. Moms and Dads, in particular, desire optimal wellness for their children and will go to great lengths to insure each child’s total wellbeing.
There is an area of development that merits yet more attention. Even in regard to the very young, parents and others involved in the care of children should pay attention to their spiritual health. Every step taken to encourage and support spiritual growth and wellness will add to the foundation upon which a child will build his view of God. A positive view of the Triune God can be the impetus for a personal relationship with Christ at an early age. Statistics reveal that 83% of all believers accept the gift of salvation between the ages of 4-14. After this, the likelihood of an individual making that critical commitment drops to a dismal 4-6%. Promoting an environment rich in God’s Word and principles is an obvious necessity.
It is clear that God has given this responsibility to parents. In Deuteronomy 6 after Moses reviews the Ten Commandments with the Israelites who were coming out from the dessert and heading into the Promised Land, Moses told the people, “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” (verses 6-9). Essentially, we are to make God’s Word a vital part of our everyday lives.
Reading Bible stories together, discussing material learned in church and Sunday School, and answering heartfelt questions a child may present about God and His Kingdom are all appropriate ways to enhance understanding. God’s Word itself supports the memorization of Scripture. Taking a look at Psalm 119 presents the many reasons why learning and understanding God’s Word is of primary importance. It will keep us from sin (11), will give us counsel (24), will strengthen us (28), will give us freedom (45), will bring comfort (52), and will give us hope (74), among many other benefits.
There are several clever and valuable ways to memorize the Word. Putting Bible verses to music is particularly beneficial. Using music engages the brain in many more areas than the use of words alone. It is a great tool to promote Scripture memorization.
The mission of Godstruck Ministries 4 Kids is “to help children hide God’s Word and principles in their hearts through His wonderful gift of music.” To this end, God has inspired us to create the Sing God’s Word CD Series, each CD featuring Scripture songs that are contemporary, fun and appealing for kids of all ages. The songs are woven into a compelling and entertaining storyline. Listeners will follow the adventures of Kori and Anthony who encounter musical characters such as Matt Cello (M.C.), Jonie Microphonie, Buddy Bass, Shaker Shake and the Dissonance Brothers. Each song contains a Bible verse or verses with dialogue that can be used as its own devotion, or each CD can be enjoyed as a complete story.
Presently there are two CDs available: Sing God’s Word – Psalms in Tune and Sing God’s Word – Way to Praise. Each contains eleven songs with a storyline to provide over an hour of quality audio entertainment. Whether listening in the car, using them for family devotions, or hearing them as a part of the bedtime ritual, the Sing God’s Word CD Series offers a way for children and their parents to hide God’s Word in their hearts and apply His principles to their lives.
